Running in the Rain

The Cherry Blossom 10 Miler was today -- a rainy 50 degree day in April. I ended up finishing in exactly 90 minutes, running at a 9 minute pace. I beat my previous 10 miler PR, but ran this slower than the half marathon last weekend. I still feel like running that race threw my training off for this as once again, my knees started giving out on me around mile 7. The first 3 miles were pretty tight, too. I found myself weaving in between people and even ran on grass for those first 3 miles. I was bummed that the bad weather kept people from coming out and cheering runners on as they've done in the past. It would've helped on the last couple miles on the Memorial Bridge. But oh well. The only thing I can do is take a few days off and start running again. Next up is the Battle of the Boulevard 10K in May.

After the race we had an amazing brunch, followed by a fantastic massage so I am feeling pretty good right now. I've also let myself eat whatever I want today (which I always do on a race day)...so I just finished a big, chocolate chip cookie :)

Registering Away...

As you notice from the sidebar, I've registered for quite a bunch of races. There's the Battle of the Boulevard 10K in Arlington in May; this should be fun, but a bit hilly. We're headed to Vancouver for a wedding in June and there happens to be a half marathon the day after, so we're doing that -- yes I know, a bit crazy since we can't really get too wild at the wedding if we want to do this, but we're looking forward to it. It's a whole different way to see Vancouver. Lastly, for now anyway, we're signed up for the Army 10-Miler in October. This is my first year doing this one, I've heard good things about it, for the most part...although there was one year when they had course issues and it ended up being an 11-miler. Oops.

So I have a bit of a gap between June and October, we'll see what fills up that space. Stay tuned, ladies and gents.
